As the 2016-2017 season has come to a close, we would like to send heartfelt thank yous to the many people who have made this season memorable. To Thunder Nation, thank you for coming out and supporting the team, being loud, and making it fun to come to the rink! To our volunteers, thank you for dedicating your time and resources to help us grow the game! To our sponsors, your support is instrumental in allowing our players and staff to focus on being their best – thank you.
To the members of the Brampton Thunder – the players, the coaches, the trainers, equipment manager, and front office – your commitment and drive is unmatched. You are the epitome of our motto for this season, “I am, because we are.” Your selflessness and dedication allowed for the team to finish the regular season in third place, and helped your teammates reach new heights.
Jess Jones had an outstanding year co-winning the Angela James Bowl, which is awarded for most points in the regular season, with 37 points (17G, 20A). Laura Stacey lead a strong rookie class with 24 points (11G, 13A) and took home the CWHL Award for Rookie of the Year. Laura Fortino (Defenceman of the Year) and Jess Jones (Jayna Hefford Trophy and Most Valuable Player) were also nominated for Awards. This season saw Liz Knox notch her 30th win in the CWHL, and witnessed Courtney Birchard and Daina Simmonds play their 100th games.
As a team, we once again made it into the postseason, but the Clarkson Cup still evades us. Our goal for the next season will remain the same, to win the Clarkson Cup. We are already counting down the days until the puck drop on the 2017-2018 CWHL season.
The Thunder are honoured to be a part of the CWHL for the past ten years, and to have a storied history before the creation of the league. The success of this team, and the CWHL as a whole, is thanks to the players, staff, volunteers, sponsors, and you – the fans. Without the support of the people in our communities, the CWHL would not have reached this important milestone. We’ve changed the game of women’s hockey together. Imagine what we could do in the next 10? Support the CWHL.
See you in October!
