MARKHAM, ON – March 8, 2018: The Thunder will have all three of their Olympians as they make the final push to secure a spot in the playoffs. Laura Fortino, 2018 Olympic silver medalist, will play her first games of the 2017-18 CWHL season on the road in Boston on March 10th and 11th.
“After some time away from the game and reflecting, I am looking forward to joining my teammates who have done an incredible job thus far in the season,” says Fortino. “I am excited to hit the ice with this team and contribute in any way possible towards our goal of winning the Clarkson Cup.”
Fortino was named to the All-Star team at PyeongChang, and had two assists during the tournament. Last season with the Thunder, Fortino had 19 points (6G, 13A) in 20 games played, and earned a nomination for Defenseman of the Year, which she had won the season prior in 2015-16.
Laura Stacey will also be making her 2017-18 season debut in Boston, while Thunder captain Jocelyne Larocque played her first games of the season against Calgary on March 3rd and 4th. The return of all three Olympians coupled with Markham’s five game win streak, makes for the perfect storm as the team makes a strong push for the Clarkson Cup.
