Brampton hosts Alberta for Three Game Series

By Melissa Milonow

BRAMPTON ??? The Brampton Thunder continue their home stand against Team Alberta in a three game series this weekend.

Brampton (6-8-1) is coming off a 3-1 loss to the Montreal Stars, after having shut them out 4-0 the previous night, while Alberta (2-16-0) is riding a four-game losing skid.

Interim Head Coach Pat Cocklin and Assistant Coach Carlos Coccimiglio, who each bring 22 years of coaching experience to the Thunder bench, look to continue their momentum from last weekend in preparing the team to compete for the Clarkson Cup next month in Markham, Ontario.

???Montreal is a very good team that is balanced in all areas. The weekend games really showed the true rivalry between our two teams, and it set us up to be even more intense when we meet them next time,?۝ says Brampton General Manager Jody Katz. ???Our team had a lot of energy, and started to be better, systematically. We will look to continue to grow on this each weekend.?۝

In their previous meeting in October, Brampton defeated Alberta 5-3 and 8-2 while Alberta bounced back to win the third game 3-2.

Scoring two goals and two assists in the first game, a hat trick and 1 assist in the second game and both goals the third game, Vicki Bendus has accumulated seven goals and three assists against Team Alberta this season.

Bendus has 15 points this season, 10 of them coming against Alberta, so Brampton will look to her to lead the way again this weekend.

Bailey Bram, Cherie Piper and Sarah Moe were also high scorers against Alberta, each netting two goals in the three-game series.

The Thunder haven?۪t been tested often on home ice this season, going 1-2-1 at Victoria Park Arena, while Alberta has lost their last six road games.

Brampton will look to capitalize on the fact that Alberta leads the league in goals against (65) and has the league?۪s worst goals for (21).

Taking to the ice this weekend will be 10 players who are part of Canada?۪s National Women?۪s Team roster; four on Team Alberta and six from Brampton as well as a member of the Swiss Women?۪s National Team.

Puck drop on Saturday is at 6:50 pm, Sunday at 2:05 pm and Monday at 12:35 pm.

Team photographs will be on sale at all three matchups for autograph sessions after the game.
